Shelves hold fiction, field guides, art books, and games selected for slow afternoons. Guests are welcome to settle in at any hour, though the room stays quiet after 10pm.
At the upper house, the Summit Lounge is a shared living room for cabin guests. A wood fire, deep chairs, coffee, tea, and a sheltered deck make it useful from early morning through late evening. Pantry service is complimentary, while outside food should be cleared before the overnight quiet hours begin.
Our cedar sauna sits just beyond the main house and faces the wooded slope. Timed sessions leave room for up to ten guests to warm, cool outside, and return at an unhurried pace. Advance reservations are encouraged on weekends. Guests under sixteen must be accompanied by an adult, and glass is not permitted.
From the first dependable freeze through early spring, the stone terrace becomes a small synthetic skating court. Overnight guests and Vale Ridge neighbors may visit during posted hours, with a limited supply of skates available at reception. Conditions and opening times can change with events, so the daily schedule is posted each morning.

Located beside the lower-level studio, the Playroom gives younger guests a dedicated place for drawing, blocks, puzzles, and a quiet break between outdoor plans. Materials are refreshed throughout the week and should remain in the room. A parent or guardian must be present at all times, as the space is not supervised.
This bright, flexible room hosts weekend yoga, meditation, small workshops, film nights, and occasional visiting teachers. The weekly schedule is available at reception and in the Experiences directory. Outside scheduled hours, overnight guests may request the room for a private movement session, subject to event use and staff availability.
A series of raised beds near the drive supplies the kitchen with herbs, edible flowers, tender greens, tomatoes, and late-season roots. Guests may follow the gravel paths whenever the gate is open. Garden walks with the grower appear seasonally, while harvesting is reserved for the culinary team.

Large maples frame the broad lawn at the front of the property. A fire circle, picnic tables, bocce, and simple lawn games make it a natural gathering place before dinner. Equipment may be borrowed from reception, and fires are lit only by staff when weather and local conditions allow.
Five acres of grasses and wildflowers sit between the house and the lower woods, creating habitat for birds, pollinators, and small wildlife. Mown paths form a gentle walking loop from spring through autumn. Guests should remain on the paths, keep dogs leashed, and leave flowers and nesting areas undisturbed.
Just beyond the library, the west deck opens toward the ridge and catches the last light of the day. One of the house's sculptural fireplaces is lit at dusk when conditions permit, and staff set out blankets on cooler evenings. Seating is shared and does not require a reservation outside private events.
The stone patio is a generous outdoor room used for morning movement, informal drinks, small celebrations, and the winter skating court. Furniture shifts with the season and scheduled events. Guests can check the daily board before settling in, and step-free access is available from the west side of the house.
Leather chairs, low light, vintage details, and a brick fireplace give the Hearth Lounge the intimate feeling of a late-night hideaway. It sits beside ORCHARD and is open for quiet drinks when not reserved for a private dinner. Seating is limited, and table service follows the restaurant's posted hours.
The Pantry Shop carries drinks, trail snacks, practical travel goods, games, locally poured candles, and a small collection made for Alderwild. It follows reception hours, and purchases can be charged to a guest room. Seasonal pieces vary, so the shelves are intentionally different from one visit to the next.
